Christopher Smith
Christopher Smith is a doctoral candidate in the York/Ryerson Joint Program in Communication and Culture, whose dissertation research involves a theoretical and ethnographic investigation into the relationship between modernity, addiction and the city. Christopher’s work through the Visible City Project has involved an examination of anarchist-oriented, intervention-based art and activist practice, including a history of the Reclaim the Streets movement in Toronto. His recent work includes both a critical analysis of the landscape of urban addiction in Toronto, and a theoretical exploration into the relationship between the notions of disaster‚ disruption‚ and intervention. As a board member of the Toronto Public Space Committee and a founding collective member of Toronto’s Anarchist Free University, Christopher’s academic and community-based involvements revolve around the shifting politics of urban public space.
